New Meetings

This hasn't really been updated since we moved to the new meeting area so here I go. Meetings are no longer held in the ceramics room. They are now held in the Sophomore English room. Thanks you for attending to all the new members and I will have the new list of topics up here shortly. Minutes will also return as of next weeks meeting.

Meeting Summary 11/20/07

Todays meeting covered what we will be doing for the next two meetings as well as some small discussion on karma.
The charity that you guys sponsored raised $150 so great job everybody.
Next week we will be planning the debate on the existence of God scheduled in two weeks so please attend if you plan on coming to that.
Finally we were able to get Mr. Mangin to agree to be our moderator for the debate so we hope to see you all there.

Business: Next week's topic will be up for debate on the blog. The limits of free speech, meaning in narratives, evolution, and the possibility of world peace are all considered
2:36- Discussion opens on strong AI, with emphasis on its impact on society.
2:44- The meaning/value of human life is added to the discussion queue, discussion continues.
3:27- Discussion ends. A straw poll on the question "Would it be moral to create a strong AI?" reveals:

2 who answer yes, it would be moral
9 who answer no, it would not be moral, and
4 who abstain.
3:30- Meeting ends.

Business: The Ironwood Free Thinkers club will be sponsoring a fund raiser for the womens overflow shelter. If you wish to participate donate or as a member of the club bring in a a jar with the information, Donate to the Womens overflow shelter. Sponsored by the Free Thinkers Club, typed on a paper wrapped about the jar and place this jar in a class.
